LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International men's basketball (1-13, 1-12 LSC) fell 75-67 to Angelo State (7-9, 7-9 LSC) in the regular season finale on Saturday.
Freshman Anthony Scott led the Dustdevils with 24 points, four assists, a rebound and a steal. Freshman Journee Phillips posted 15 points with three rebounds, an assist and a steal. Senior Matija Novkovic contributed 10 points with three rebounds two assists and a steal.
The game was close throughout with both teams shooting 24-48 from the field. The difference came in the free throw percentage, in which ASU shot 20-28 while TAMIU was 13-18.
The Rams jumped out to an early seven-point lead at 11-4, but the Dustdevils quickly cut it down to 11-8. ASU fought and took their first double-digit lead of the game midway through the half at 20-10. Once again, TAMIU was able to trim the deficit to a single possession with just over three minutes left in the half at 28-26. The Rams manage to stretch their lead back out as they took a 42-33 lead into the intermission.
After falling down by 10 points at 43-33 to start the second half, the Dustdevils rallied to pull within one point at 45-44 five minutes into the period. From there, TAMIU kept ASU within two possessions, until the Rams worked their advantage back out to 10 points at 75-65 with just over two minutes left. They eventually took the win 75-67.
