LAWTON, Okla. – Texas A&M International softball (10-7, 5-3 LSC) swept an offense filled doubleheader against Cameron (9-9, 2-6 LSC). The two teams combined for 42 runs in the two games, with the Dustdevils taking game one 12-8 and game two 14-8.

Game 1: Texas A&M International 12, Cameron 8

It wasn't until the third inning when the Dustdevils started the scoring, putting up five runs in the inning.

Senior
Morgan Chavarria opened the scoring with a two-run home run, her third of the season, to make it 2-0. A few batters later, junior
Briana Arredondo hit her first home run of the season, a three-run home run, to make it 5-0.

The Aggies responded in the bottom of the third inning, making it 5-2, hitting a two-run home run of their own off the bat of Callie Christensen.

In the top of the fourth, TAMIU added to its lead, making it 7-2 after an RBI single by freshman
Victoria Gonzalez and an RBI double by junior
Darrian Smith.

Two more Dustdevil runs made it 9-2 in the fifth inning, when sophomore
Kristy Alanis scored on a wild pitch, followed by a Chavarria sacrifice fly to score senior
Melanie Gamboa.

Cameron cut the deficit to 9-8 in the bottom of the fifth, bringing six runs across. Khmari Edwards and Christensen hit back-to-back solo home runs to make it 9-4, followed by a Kylie French RBI single, a run scoring on a Dustdevil error and Edwards in her second at bat of the inning notching a two RBI single.

TAMIU added an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning when Gamboa singled in Arredondo to make it 10-8 and in the seventh inning, added two more runs to make it 12-8 on back-to-back RBI fielder's choice by sophomore
Victoria Maldonado and Arredondo.

Cameron had one last chance, putting runners on second and third in the bottom of the seventh, but left both runners stranded.

Sophomore
Erika Cortez (5-4) took the victory on the mound, with a line of 4+ innings, six runs (five earned), seven hits, eight strikeouts and two walks.

In relief, senior
Melanie Lint threw three innings, allowing two unearned runs and four hits.

Offensively, the Dustdevils put together a total of 16 hits. Arredondo (3-for-4, 4 RBI), Chavarria (3-for-4, 3 RBI) and Gonzalez (3-for-5) led the way for TAMIU at the plate.

Game 2: Texas A&M International 14, Cameron 8

Cameron was the first to strike in game two, leading 4-0 after the opening frame.
Â
Brenna Busby started the scoring with a solo home run, and the Aggies received RBI singles by Edwards, French and Kacie Gilreath.

TAMIU responded in the top of the second, scoring eight runs to double up Cameron.
Â
Gamboa started the scoring with a bases clearing, three RBI double to cut the deficit to 4-3. An Aggie error and Gonzalez single gave the Dustdevils a 5-4 lead, before Smith belted a three run home run, her fourth of the season, to make the score 8-4.

Cameron came right back to tie the game, getting three runs in the bottom of the second inning and one in the bottom of the third.

TAMIU jumped right back in front, scoring a run in the fourth inning and five in the fifth inning to take a 14-8 lead and close the scoring for the evening.

In the fourth inning, sophomore
Denise Longoria hit a solo home run to make it 9-8.

In the fifth inning, Gamboa opened the frame with a solo home run, followed by a two RBI single by senior
Shelby Edwards and punctuated by Longoria's second home run in consecutive innings (two run home run).

Freshman
Chelsea Salinas started the game for the Dustdevils, allowing seven runs (six earned), eight hits and walked two. Longoria (1-0) picked up the victory in relief, allowing one run, three hits, a walk and three strikeouts. Smith pitched the final three innings, allowing two hits, a walk and two strikeouts.

Offensively, five Dustdevils collected two hits, including Gamboa (2-for-3, 4 RBI), Smith (2-for-2, 3 RBI), Longoria (2-for-2, 3 RBI), Arredondo (2-for-4) and Edwards (2-for-5).

The Dustdevils now back in the win column, prepare for a five game weekend at home, starting with a doubleheader against West Texas A&M on Friday. First pitch for game one is slated for 12:10 p.m.
