CANYON, Texas – Texas A&M International (11-5, 9-4 LSC) took the floor for the first time in the Lone Star Conference Tournament, but it was host West Texas A&M (15-5, 13-5 LSC) taking home the victory 59-46.

The sixth seeded Dustdevils were deadlocked with the third seeded Lady Buffs, 14-14 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, TAMIU took a 19-17 lead with 5:02 remaining thank to a three pointer by sophomore
Clara Fernandez, but West Texas A&M countered with an 9-2 run over the remainder of the quarter. In the process, the Lady Buffs limited the Dustdevils to just seven points in the quarter, taking a 26-21 lead into halftime.

The first half saw the Dustdevils shoot 40% from the floor and 1-for-7 from behind the arc. On the other side, West Texas A&M shot 48% in the first half, but just 1-for-6 from three.

The Lady Buffs opened the third quarter on a 5-0 run in the first 1:09 and that run expanded to 12-4 with 6:41 remaining in the quarter to open up their first double digit lead, 37-25.

A 6-0 run in the third by the Dustdevils cut the lead to 37-31, but West Texas A&M found a way to reopen a double digit lead before taking a 43-34 lead into the fourth.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Buff lead held steady with it reaching its highest of 15 points, ultimately taking home the victory.

For the game, TAMIU shot 32% from the floor and 33% from three and made 11-of-16 free throws. On the other hand, West Texas A&M shot 44% from the field, but just 20% from three. The Lady Buffs also were perfect from the line going 10-for-10.

The Dustdevils were led by freshman
Ally Winnen who scored a team-high 14 points in 19 minutes played. Senior
Nicole Heyn secured her fourth double-double in a row and sixth of the season, scoring 12 rebounds while adding 13 rebounds.

Patrycja Jaworska scored 11 points as the only other Dustdevil to reach double figures.

The Lady Buffs were led by senior Lexy Hightower who scored a season high 28 points. Junior Braylyn Dollar also scored her season high with 17 points.

Despite falling in the LSC Tournament Quarterfinals, the Dustdevils had an exceptional year. For the first time, TAMIU was LSC South Division Champions, its first such conference accolade since 2013-14 when the Dustdevils were Heartland Conference regular season champions.

Lastly, the Dustdevils set the highest regular season win percentage in program history (.733), topping the 2013-14 team (.679).
