Dustdevils Fall in Doubleheader to St. Mary’s

SAN ANTONIO – Texas A&M International baseball (5,10, 5-10 LSC) fell in a doubleheader to St. Mary's (9-6, 7-5 LSC) on Saturday.

GAME 1 - STMU 7, TAMIU 0

The Rattlers got on the board first with a early 1-0 lead in the opening inning. The run came home on an RBI double to right center.

StMU added to their lead in the second inning with two more runs to push out to 3-0. Both runs were plated on a two RBI single to left field.

They added another run in the fourth to increase the margin to 4-0. The run scored on an RBI single to left.

The Rattlers got an insurance run in the seventh to push out to 5-0. A RBI double down the right field line scored the run.

StMU sealed the win with two more runs in the bottom of the eight to take the 7-0 victory. One run came in one an RBI single down the right field line, with the other run coming in on a sacrifice fly to right.

Zach De La Garza (2-1) earned the win with a complete game, one-hit shutout. Bryce Faust (1-2) took the loss.

GAME 2 - STMU 9, TAMIU 6

The Dustdevils jumped on the board first with two runs for an early 2-0 lead to start. Luis Flores brought home Phillip Sanchez with an RBI fielder's choice. Jerry Villareal plated Andrew Holsey with an RBI single to left.

The Rattlers got a run back in the bottom of the second to cut the lead to 2-1. The run came in on an RBI fly out to left. StMU tied things up 2-2 in the second with a solo homer to left center.

TAMIU retook the lead 3-2 with a run in the top of the fourth. Antonio Buentello drove in Brock Hargens with a RBI double down the left field line.

The Rattlers brought in two runs in the bottom of the fifth to take their first lead 4-3. A RBI double to left center scored the first run, with a RBI single through the right side of the infield.

The Dustdevils responded in the top of the sixth, retaking the lead 5-4 with two runs. An RBI groundout to second scored Buentello. Sanchez plated Quiroz with an RBI single to left. They added another run in the seventh to push out to 6-4. Villareal drove in Bailey with an RBI double to the right field corner.

StMU cut into the lead 6-5 with a run in the bottom of the seventh. An RBI double to left scored the run.

The Rattler's offense exploded in the bottom of the eighth to claim the victory 9-6 with four runs in the frame. An RBI double to right center scoring another. Two more runs came in on a two RBI single through the right side of the infield. The final run came in on an RBI single to right center.

Johnny Panatex (1-0) earned the win. Hugo Mendiola (0-2) took the loss.

The Dustdevils will return home on Friday, March 12 as they welcome Lubbock Christian for a three-game series. First pitch for game one is set for 1 p.m.
