DALLAS – Texas A&M International volleyball split their two matches on the first day of the AVCA Division II Women's National Championship Tournament, which included shocking No. 9 Gannon in a five-set thriller.
In the match against Gannon, TAMIU took the opening set with a close 25-23 decision. The Knights rebounded to take sets two and three 25-19 and 25-22, respectively. The Dustdevils rallied down two sets to one with a 30-28 decision in the fourth set. They completed the comeback to take the match with a 17-15 decision in the fifth and final set.
In the second match of the day against fellow Lone Star Conference member No. 12 UT-Tyler, TAMIU fell 3-1. The Dustdevils once again took the first frame with a 25-17 decision. The Patriots bounced back to sweep the remaining three sets by scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 25-17.
TAMIU awaits the completion of pool play later this evening to see who their opponent for tomorrow's match will be.
