COMMERCE, Texas –Texas A&M International men's basketball ran into a hot shooting Texas A&M-Commerce, as the Lions opened a large lead early and led throughout, defeating the Dustdevils 86-64.

TAMUC (14-4, 6-3 LSC) opened the game with a flurry, scoring the first 10 points of the game in just over two minutes to lead 10-0.

As the half went on, the shots just continued to fall for the Lions and the Dustdevils (11-6, 3-3 LSC) couldn't find a run of their own, as they trailed 55-27.

In the first half, TAMIU shot 9-for-19 (47.4%), but on the other end, TAMUC shot 20-for-32 (62.5%) and 11-for-16 (68.8%) from three.

The Dustdevils would continue to grind, out of the locker room, but the Lions had an answer at every turn.

It wasn't until late second half with under five minutes remaining when TAMIU finally got any form of a run, just too late, outscoring TAMUC 13-5 down the final stretch.

The Dustdevils despite the loss shot well from the floor going 21-for-47 (45%), but were just 6-for-19 (32%) from three.

On the other end, the Lions shot an impressive 57% (34-for-60) and were 13-for-23 (57%) from deep.

La-Quiem Walker led TAMIU in scoring, with 16 points on 5-for-11 shooting and eight rebounds.

Senior
Greg Bowie II was the only other Dustdevil in double figures, with 11 points, while junior
Tre Thomas scored eight off the bench.

TAMIU finishes the road trip 1-1 and now returns home for the next two games, beginning Thursday, Feb. 3. St. Mary's comes to Laredo that night for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
