LAREDO, Texas - Texas A&M International men's soccer returned home after its upset win over #18 Midwestern State, but the winning streak opportunity was thwarted by Lubbock Christian who topped the Dustdevils 2-1 on Senior Night.
The Chaps (7-5-3, 4-1-1 LSC) were the first to hit the scoreboard at 17:01 to take a 1-0 lead and end Dustdevil goalkeeper
Robin Verhoeven's shutout streak at 303:59.
LCU would add the insurance goal needed at the 27:06 mark to take a 2-0 lead.
TAMIU (3-6-6, 1-3-2 LSC) cut the deficit to 2-1 at 34:22 of the half, when junior
Tajani Fairclough scored his third goal of the season, assisted by junior
Jordan Mase, who picked up his third helper.
Chances from then on were limited, as the shot total read just 9-7 in favor of the Dustdevils. It was the Chaps who led the shots on goal department at 5-4.
Fairclough and freshman
Nico Weigandt tied for the team high in shots with two each, while Fairclough and three others combined for the four shots.
TAMIU begins a two game road swing before closing the regular season at home, and the first stop on the trip is Tyler, Texas to face UT Tyler on Saturday, Oct. 22. Opening kick is slated for 7 p.m.
