Dustdevils Suffer First Loss Of Season To Seawolves

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Texas A&M International men's basketball suffered its first loss of the 2022-23 season, falling to Alaska Anchorage 65-48.
 
The Dustdevils (5-1, 0-0 LSC) led only twice in the game when the score was 2-0 and 4-3, and other than that it was all Seawolves.
 
By the midway mark of the first half, Alaska Anchorage (4-3, 0-0 GNAC) led 22-9 and went on to hold a 35-23 lead at the half.
 
Out of halftime, TAMIU would cut the deficit to as low as eight points on two separate occasions, but the Seawolves wouldn't allow the Dustdevils to come any closer and held a double digit lead the majority of the time to seal the win.
 
For the game, TAMIU shot just 33.3%, going 17-for-51 from the floor, and again struggled behind the arc, going just 4-for-18. The Dustdevils did make 10 of their 13 free-throw attempts.
 
On the other side, Alaska Anchorage finished 25-for-53 (47.2%) from the floor, and 9-for-29 (31%) from three.
 
The Dustdevils were led in scoring by senior Jermaine Drewey who scored nine points alongside seven rebounds and three assists.
 
Junior Juwan White followed with eight points and four rebounds, while senior Shea Rax and junior Mike Rivera each added six points.
 
TAMIU's road trip continues on Thursday, Dec. 1 when it opens conference play against UT Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas. Opening tip against the Falcons is set for 7:30 p.m.
