Dustdevils Force 40 Turnovers Behind Program Record 28 Steals In Dominating 88-33 Win Over UPR-Mayaguez

Box Score BAYAMON, Puerto Rico – Texas A&M International women's basketball forced 40 turnovers and set a program record with 28 steals in a dominating 88-33 victory over University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez.
 
TAMIU (6-4, 1-3 LSC) took control in the first quarter and never looked back. Over the first 10 minutes of play the Dustdevils held a 22-10 lead.
 
Going into the locker room, TAMIU's lead sat at 41-20 behind a 19-10 second quarter.

In the first half, the Dustdevils shot 51.7% (15-for-29) from the floor, 2-for-3 from deep and 9-for-12 from the foul line.

TAMIU stayed on fire of halftime, growing its lead to 68-29 behind 10-for-10 shooting from the floor and 4-for-4 from behind the arc, outscoring UPR-Mayaguez 27-9.
 
The fourth was yet again all Dustdevils, scoring another 20 points, while limiting the opposition to just four points and one field goal made.
 
For the game, TAMIU shot 57.7% (30-for-52) from the floor, and 8-for-15 (53.3%) from deep. Also, the free-throw line was strong, making 20 of 28 attempts. The Dustdevils outrebounded UPR-Mayaguez 28-17 and assisted on 22 of 30 baskets.
 
On the other side, UPR-Mayaguez shot just 20.5% (8-for-39) from the field, 1-for-9 (11.1%) from three and half its points came from the free-throw line, going 16-for-20, while turning the ball over 40 times.
 
Reigning LSC Defensive Player of the week, junior Emily Swiercz was the lead offensively with 20 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field and 4-for-5 shooting from three, alongside a pair of assists and rebounds, as well as four steals.
 
Fellow junior Rai Brown followed right behind with 18 points and four rebounds, while redshirt freshman Madison Ansari was the third player in double figures with 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists and four steals off the bench.
 
Junior Clara Fernandez filled the stat sheet with five points, seven rebounds, three assists, five steals and a block.
 
The Dustdevils return to action on Thursday, Dec. 15 when they conclude there games in Puerto Rico against Puerto Rico-Bayamon. Opening tip is slated for 12 p.m. AST/10 a.m. CST.
