LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International women's basketball dominated Lubbock Christian defensively, bringing home a 60-47 victory over the Lady Chaps, defeating them for the first time since 2015.

The Dustdevils (5-3, 1-2 LSC) defense held Lubbock Christian (6-3, 2-1 LSC) to a season low 32.1% shooting from the floor and the 47 points is the fewest scored by the Lady Chaps in 33 games, dating back nearly a year.

TAMIU forced 22 turnovers on the night, as the Dustdevils made it the most LCU has had in a game since Mar. 27, 2019 when they had 29 in the Final Four matchup against Drury.

In the first quarter, points were hard to come by, as the edge sat at 14-6 in favor of TAMIU, who limited Lubbock Christian to just three made shots and 27.3% shooting.

The Lady Chaps in the second quarter would do what the Dustdevils did to them in the first, holding TAMIU to nine points, while cutting the deficit to 23-19 going into the half.

The third quarter was very even, as the score read 37-32 at the end, but in the frame, the Dustdevils would grow its lead to seven points.

Lubbock Christian would fight back in the fourth trimming the deficit to 43-41 at the 4:30 mark, but TAMIU countered with a 7-0 run to open its largest lead at nine, 50-41.

From 1:30 to the 28 second remaining mark, the Dustdevils used an 8-0 run to blow the lead open to 15 and sealed the victory of the Lady Chaps for the first time since Feb. 28, 2015 and only the second time ever.

For the game, TAMIU shot 33.3% (19-for-55) from the floor, but made the most of its three point attempts hitting five of 11, a 45.5% clip. Also, the free-throw line was strong, making 17 of 22 attempts.

On the other side, Lubbock Christian shot 32.1% (18-for-56) from the field, a porous 5-for-21 (23.8%) from three and just 50% (6-for-12) from the charity stripe, the lowest percentage with at least ten attempts from the line in a game since shooting 46.2% on Jan. 26, 2019 against Oklahoma Christian.

Rai Brown battled her way to a double-double, finishing with 21 points and 10 rebounds, alongside two blocks.

Emily Swiercz cashed in four three pointers leading to 14 points, and defensively put together a block and four steals, while sophomore
Evelyn Quiroz would score eight points, add 10 rebounds, a block and three steals of her own.

The Dustdevils return to action on Saturday, Dec. 10 when they host #2 West Texas A&M at 1 p.m. as TAMIU will look to avenge its loss to the Lady Buffs in the LSC Tournament Quarterfinals that ended the season this past March.
