SAN ANGELO, Texas –Texas A&M International men's basketball closed out its three game road trip against Angelo State, and in the end it was TAMIU who came out victorious 65-54.
It was a low scoring first half that saw the Dustdevils (12-9, 4-7 LSC) hold a slim 25-23 lead at the break.
Over the first 7:06, it was all Rams (16-8, 6-6 LSC) as they jumped ahead to a 15-6 lead.
However, the fortunes turned in favor of TAMIU, beginning with a 12-0 run from 12:35 remaining until 5:14 remaining to take an 18-15 lead and the overall run was 19-8 over the entirety of the span for TAMIU to hold the edge at halftime.
The second half saw the two teams slug it out, especially over the first 10 minutes.
The Dustdevils scored the first basket to go up four points and the Rams then cut it to one. TAMIU then regained a five-point edge of 31-26, but yet again Angelo State would come back and tie the game in the next two possessions.
From 12:50 remaining until 5:07 remaining, the Dustdevils used a 17-5 run to open up a 12-point lead of 48-36.
Down the stretch, TAMIU never allowed the lead to come any closer than seven points and sealed the victory to end a five game slide.
In the victory, the Dustdevils shot 20-for-59 (33.9%) from the floor, 4-for-17 (23.5%) from behind the arc and a spectacular 21-for-22 (95.5%) from the free-throw line.
On the other end, the Rams shot 35.7%, going 20-for-56 and 3-for-19 (15.8%) from deep and just 11-for-17 from the charity stripe.
Freshman
Tiras Morton led three Dustdevils who scored in double-figures with an 18 point, 11 rebound and four block performance.
Junior
Tre Thomas followed with 13 points, while senior
Greg Bowie II ended with 11 points and seven rebounds.
TAMIU now looks to turn the win into a streak when they face DBU on Thursday, Feb. 17 in Laredo at 7:30 p.m.
