CANYON, Texas –Texas A&M International men's basketball closed its 2021-22 season against #15/#22 West Texas A&M, and in the end, it was the Buffs bringing home the victory 93-69.

The first half was all West Texas A&M (25-6, 11-5 LSC) as they held a 57-34 lead at the break.

Both teams shot well in the opening half, as the Dustdevils (13-14, 5-11 LSC) shot 47% from the floor (15-for-32) and 57% from three (4-for-7), while the Buffs shot 59% (19-for-32) from the field and 5-for-13 (38%) from deep.

However, the lead was helped by the free-throw line where West Texas A&M shot 14-for-18 to TAMIU's 0-for-1.

Out of halftime, the Dustdevils were stuck playing catch up and despite continuing to shoot well, the Buffs shot equally as well, leading to the defeat for TAMIU.

In the loss, the Dustdevils shot 26-for-57 (46%) from the floor, 6-for-13 (46%) from behind the arc and just 11-for-20 from the free-throw line.

On the other end, West Texas A&M shot 54%, going 32-for-59 from the field and 8-for-24 (33%) from deep. The Buffs were 21-for-32 from the charity stripe.

Freshman
Journee Phillips led the way for TAMIU, scoring 17 points. Junior
Tre Thomas followed with 13 points, while freshman
Tiras Morton ended with 10 points and seven rebounds.

The 2021-22 season comes to a close for the Dustdevils, who despite finishing just one game under .500, they won the most games in a single season since 2016-17's 20-win team.
