CANYON, Texas. – Texas A&M International women's basketball finished its 2021-22 regular season against West Texas A&M and in the end, it was the Lady Buffs coming out victorious, 79-58.
It was all West Texas A&M (20-10, 13-3 LSC) in the first quarter, as they jumped ahead early and took a 22-9 lead into the second quarter.
TAMIU was able to trim the deficit to 28-18 in the second quarter, but the shots were just not falling for the Dustdevils (17-10, 8-8 LSC), as they went into halftime trailing 39-24.
Out of the locker room, the Lady Buffs went on another scoring spurt, taking the third quarter 27-15 to open up a 66-39 edge.
In the fourth quarter, TAMIU finally was able to break through and take the 19-13 edge, but it was too late as they fell in the regular season finale.
For the game, the Dustdevils shot 34.9% (22-for-63) from the floor and 46.7% (7-for-15) from deep. TAMIU only attempted 12 free-throws and made seven.
On the other side, West Texas A&M finished 31-for-77 (40.3%) from the floor and 8-for-23 (34.8%) from behind the arc. The Lady Buffs did go 9-for-9 at the charity stripe.
Sophomore
Rai Brown led the Dustdevils with a 14 points, seven rebounds performance, while fellow sophomore Emily Sweircz chipped in 11 points and freshman
Evelyn Quiroz added 10 points.
The season is not over for TAMIU as they now get prepared for the Lone Star Conference Tournament. The Dustdevils hold the #9 seed in the LSC Tournament and will take to the road for a First Round matchup.
