PORTALES, N.M. – Texas A&M International softball opened its doubleheader in dominating fashion with a 12-0 win in five innings over Eastern New Mexico, but fell in game two, 4-1.

TAMIU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with an RBI walk drawn by sophomore
Victoria Gonzalez, followed by an RBI single from junior
Darrian Smith.
Â
The Dustdevils added five runs in the second inning, beginning with junior
Heather Ruiz who singled in a run, and came around to score, as well as sophomore
Kristy Alanis on a Greyhounds error to make it 5-0.

Gonzalez would follow with a two-run home run to make it a 7-0 game.
Â
In the fourth, TAMIU added its final five runs of the game on a two RBI single by Smith and a three RBI double by freshman
Alex Hernandez.

Smith got the start in the circle and allowed just one hit and struck out seven in the five inning complete game.
Â
Offensively, TAMIU had 11 hits with Smith going 3-for-3 with three RBI, Hernandez going 3-for-4 with three RBI and Gonzalez going 2-fo-2 with three RBI as well.
Game 2: Eastern New Mexico 4, Texas A&M International 1

The Greyhounds quickly put the lopsided defeat behind them, scoring all four of their runs in the top of the first inning.

TAMIU's lone run of the game came on an RBI double by graduate student
Melanie Gamboa in the top of the fifth inning.

Gonzalez started in the circle, and 0+ inning of work, allowed three runs, two hits and one walk.

Freshman
Sara Papizan pitched six innings and allowed one unearned run, three hits and struck out five.

TAMIU had just three hits, with Gamboa, Ruiz and senior
Christina Garcia all having one each.

The Dustdevils return home for just the second time on the year, and have five games over three days. They open with Western New Mexico in LSC action on Friday, Mar. 25 for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
