LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International softball upped its win streak to three after defeating Western New Mexico 9-1 in five-inning, run rule fashion, in non-conference play.

The score was 0-0 through the first 2.5 innings, but the Dustdevils exploded in the bottom of the third to take an 8-0 lead.

TAMIU scored all eight runs with two outs, starting with a two-run home run by junior
Briana Arredondo.

Senior
Christina Garcia followed with a two RBI double, then graduate student
Melanie Gamboa added a two RBI single and fellow graduate student
Victoria Maldonado had a two RBI double of her own.

The Dustdevils made the lead 9-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, when freshman
Hannah Reiley drove in a run on an RBI single.

The Mustangs lone run of the game was a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning.

Sophomore
Victoria Gonzalez got the start in the circle and allowed just one run, three hits, one walk and struck out one in the five inning complete game.

Offensively, TAMIU had 11 hits on the early afternoon, with Gonzalez, Reiley and freshman
Alex Hernandez all having two hits each. Eight of the 10 Dustdevil batters in the game collected a hit.

TAMIU returns to the field on Sunday, Mar. 27 for a conference doubleheader against UT Permian Basin. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
