Michelle Rubio-Garcia TAMIU Cheer & Dance Head Coach

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International Department of Athletics has promoted Michelle Rubio-Garcia to the position of head coach for cheer and dance, after holding the title of assistant coach and then interim head coach for a brief time.

Rubio-Garcia joined TAMIU in February 2021 and brings with her over 15 years of experience in the dance team industry.

Last year, after her hire as assistant coach and leading the dance team, with one month's time to prepare, took TAMIU Dance to the American Dance/Drill Team Nationals in Arlington, Texas and the team finished as second runner-up in the Division II category.

She holds two dance fitness certifications, is TEA certified in dance and physical education, as well as the owner of her own freelance choreography company, Crown Creative.

Rubio-Garcia as a performer has appeared in events such as the halftime show of the Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Fla., as well as several San Antonio Spurs games.

As a director, she led Laredo's Cigarroa High School to its first National Championship in the schools near 40-year history.
