TAMIU Makes Statement to Open Series With 10-0 Win Over Eastern N.M. In Vs. Cancer Game

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball made a statement to open its series against Eastern New Mexico, run ruling the Greyhounds 10-0 in seven innings in the Vs. Cancer Game.
 
TAMIU earned its first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning, when senior Ariben Gutierrez crossed the plate on a wild pitch to make it 1-0.
 
The Dustdevils added to its lead in the third and fourth innings, plating three runs in each frame to open a 7-0 lead.
 
Senior Ronnie Bailey made it 3-0 on a two-run home run, then Gutierrez followed with an RBI single to make it 4-0.
 
In the fourth, junior Matt Kissamis singled in a run to make it 5-0, followed by an RBI double from Bailey for a 6-0 lead and rounded out the scoring with an RBI groundout by senior Brock Hargens.
 
TAMIU plated the winning runs in the sixth inning, with a two RBI single from sophomore Daniel Quiroz and an RBI single by freshman Alex Lugo, all to make the score 10-0.
 
Freshman Christopher Sauceda was stellar for the Dustdevils, tossing a complete game, allowing four hits, four walks and struck out eight. It was Sauceda's first collegiate complete game and shutout.
 
TAMIU had the bats rolling, with all nine batters in the order collecting at least one hit of the 17 total. Bailey, Gutierrez and graduate student Daniel Hernandez all led the charge with 3-for-4 showings, while Quiroz and Lugo each had two hits.
 
The Dustdevils return to action on Saturday, Apr. 23 at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader against Eastern New Mexico.
