Dustdevils Break Out The Brooms, Sweep Eastern N.M. In 7-2 Senior Day Victory

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball earned its first series sweep of the season, as well as since joining the Lone Star Conference, upending Eastern New Mexico, 7-2 on Senior Day.

TAMIU immediately took charge in the bottom of the first, on a sacrifice fly by junior Matt Kissamis to make the score 1-0 and an RBI single by sophomore Daniel Quiroz to up the lead to 2-0.

The Greyhounds scored their lone runs of the game in the top of the second inning, responding with an RBI single that plated one run and the second runner on the play crossing after an error.

The Dustdevil lead grew to 4-2 in the fourth inning, scoring a run on a wild pitch and another after an Eastern New Mexico fielding error.

TAMIU's final runs came in the seventh inning, with another run scoring after a defensive miscue by the Greyhounds and a two-run home run by graduate student Daniel Hernandez, all to make the score 7-2.

Senior Joseph Garza-Delapena secured the victory in the start, throwing five innings, allowing two runs (one earned), five hits, two walks and struck out six over five frames.

Sophomore Andrew Delgadillo earned the save, working four innings of relief, allowing no runs, three hits and struck out four.
