LAWTON, Okla. – Texas A&M International baseball continued its winning streak, sweeping Cameron in the final regular season doubleheader, by scores of 8-2 and 4-0, putting TAMIU one step closer to a potential LSC Tournament bid.
GAME 1: Texas A&M International 8 Cameron 2
TAMIU opened the scoring immediately in the top of the first inning, with an RBI single by senior
Ronnie Bailey to open a 1-0 lead.
The next inning, the Dustdevil lead grew to 3-0 on an RBI single by senior
Ariben Gutierrez and a sacrifice fly by Bailey for his second RBI of the game.
In the third, graduate student
Daniel Hernandez made it 4-0 on an RBI single, then in the fourth, the lead jumped to 6-0 on yet another RBI single by senior
Brock Hargens and an RBI groundout by sophomore
Daniel Quiroz.
Cameron finally cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth, plating to runs on an RBI double and single.
Hargens concluded the scoring in the top of the sixth, with a two RBI single to make it 8-2, his second and third RBI of the game.
Senior
Abanny Garcia was stellar on the mound, tossing a complete game, allowing just two runs, six hits and fanned eight Aggie batters.
Offensively, TAMIU scattered seven hits, with Hargens (2-for-4, 3 RBI) and junior
Antonio Buentello (2-for-4) leading the way.
GAME 2: Texas A&M International 4 Cameron 0
Game two once again went in favor of the Dustdevils, thanks in part to jumping ahead early and great pitching.
TAMIU scored first, in the top of the first, on an RBI fielder's choice by Buentello.
The Dustdevils grew their lead to 2-0 in the second inning off an RBI single by junior
Isaac Gonzalez.
It wasn't until the seventh inning when the final runs of the game were plated, as the TAMIU lead went to 4-0 on a two RBI single by Gutierrez.
Sophomore
Jan Cabrera was masterful in the victory, throwing a complete game, two hit shutout, walking just one and striking out six.
The Dustdevils totaled nine hits in the game two win, with Gonzalez (2-for-4) and freshman
Alex Lugo (2-for-2) leading the team at the dish.
TAMIU looks to sweep the series tomorrow, May. 1 at 1 p.m. A victory guarantees the Dustdevils a place in the LSC Tournament, but a loss can still get them in, depending on the result of St. Mary's vs UAFS.
