Box Score NAMPA, Idaho - Texas A&M International finished off the Northwest Nazarene Tournament in an electric four sets.
The Dustdevils came out with heat in the final game of the tournament, keeping the Tars at bay by only allowing 15 points in the first set. At the net, Catalina, Menchaca, and Thompson were a wall stopping the offensive attack.Â
The second set was the same as the first as the Dustdevils took the lead from the start over the Tars and eventually took the set 25-15. In the third set, the Dustdevils fell behind Tars early and failed to be able to come back, losing the set 19-25
The fourth set found TAMIU getting a quick lead over the Tars as they went on a 5-0 run to start off the set. The Dustdevils kept a fast-paced momentum putting the Tars on their toes for most of the set. The Dustdevils found the Tars closing in during the final five points but took the set 25-23 off of the kill from Catalina.Â
Lixai Perez collected a match-leading 16 digs, followed by Guilia Horetlan with 15. Emma Lade continued to set up success and she collected 43 assists. As a team, the Dustdevils totaled 29 blocks. On the offensive attack, Meagan Menchaca led the charge once again with 17 kills and a .448 hitting percentage. Guilia Horetlan followed close behind with 13 and Mackenzie Catalina with 11 to round out the top three kill leaders.Â
The Dustdevils finish the NNU Tournament 3-1 in a great start to the 2022 season.Â
The next game for the Dustdevils will be in the Anderson University Invitational on Friday, Sept. 2nd against Alabama-Huntsville.
