RICHARDSON, Texas - Texas A&M International senior guard
Jermaine Drewey was named Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday by the conference.
Drewey had a great all-around week for TAMIU, helping the team go 2-0, winning consecutive LSC matchups for the first time this season.
In Thursday's 57-48 win over UT Tyler, Drewey put together a 13-point, seven rebound, and two steal performance, while helping hold the Patriots to their second lowest scoring total of the year and just 31.5% shooting from the floor and 19% from three.
Drewey followed that performance in Saturday's win over DBU with 18 points, five rebounds, two assists, one block and three steals, to help defeat the Patriots for the first time in the last 10 matchups.
Drewey and TAMIU limited their opposition to an average of 53 points and 37.1% shooting on the week and the Dustdevils currently sit 11th nationally in scoring defense.
