PORTALES, N.M. – Texas A&M-International men's basketball saw its two-game winning streak snapped on Thursday at Eastern New Mexico after its late-game rally fell short in a 56-51 defeat.
The Greyhounds (8-8, 6-5 LSC) scored the opening bucket 23 seconds into the game and never trailed leading by as much as 15 with two minutes left in the game.
The Dustdevils (11-8, 4-7 LSC) finished the game on an 11-1 run with five of the points coming from sophomore
Lonzo Rand.
The game started as a defensive struggle with Eastern New Mexico holding a 4-2 lead five minutes into the game. They slowly grew their lead and held a 12-7 lead with 10 minutes left in the first half and 18-11 with five minutes left.
The Greyhounds continued to pull away in the second half and held a 38-28 lead with 15 minutes left in the game and a 44-33 lead with 10 minutes left.
A jumper from Eastern New Mexico stretched the lead to 49-35 with five minutes left in the game.

Tiras Morton led TAMIU with 11 points, Rand added eight and graduate student
Greg Bowie II tallied eight. Junior
John Achebe scored seven points and grabbed eight rebounds and sophomore
Olaverr Camacho hauled in 11 rebounds.
The Dustdevils shot 17-of-54 (31.5%) from the field and 5-of-26 (19.2%) from three. On the other end, Eastern New Mexico shot 22-of-50 (44.0%) from the field and were 0-of-9 from the perimeter.
TAMIU is now 2-3 in its last five games and will look to bounce back on Saturday, Jan. 21 at Western New Mexico (10-7, 4-7 LSC). Opening tip is slated for 2 p.m. CST/1 p.m. MST.
