TAMIU Women's Soccer Topples St. Mary's

San Antonio, Texas - In a thrilling women's college soccer match that took place on October 18, 2023, at Sigma Beta Chi Field in San Antonio, the Texas A&M International Dustdevils (TAMIU) emerged victorious with a 3-2 win over the St. Mary's Rattlers (StMU). The match featured a closely contested battle between the two teams, with TAMIU eventually securing the victory.

 

The game started with both teams showing their offensive prowess. Shelby Paniagua of St. Mary's opened the scoring at 19:24 with a goal, putting her team in the lead. However, TAMIU quickly responded, as Lucia Cuadra equalized the score at 23:46.

 

The second half continued to be an intense contest. Sammy Hecht proved to be the difference-maker for TAMIU, scoring twice to secure the win. Hecht found the back of the net at 59:22 and again at 72:14, making her instrumental in TAMIU's comeback.

 

St. Mary's Rattlers did not give up and fought hard to close the gap. Sydney Varela scored for StMU at 79:32, keeping the match close until the final whistle.

 

In terms of statistics, both teams displayed their determination to win. The Dustdevils held the advantage with three goals to the Rattlers' two. With this victory, TAMIU improved their season record to 5-3-5, including a 3-2-3 record in conference play. St. Mary's Rattlers now have a record of 6-3-5, with a 5-2-1 conference record.
