Grand Junction, Colo. – Texas A&M International men's basketball fell 77-73 to Colorado Mesa on Saturday in a back-and-forth battle that featured 15 lead changes and 11 ties.
The Dustdevils (3-2) shot 26 for 59 (44.1%) from the field, 3 of 13 (23.1%) from behind the arc and 18 of 21 (85.7%) from the free throw line. The Mavericks (3-1) shot 21 of 42 from the field (50.0%), 5 of 17 (29.4%) from 3 and 30 of 37 (81.1%) from the charity stripe.
TAMIU committed 21 fouls in the game.
Colorado Mesa led 34-33 at halftime and outscored TAMIU 43-40 in the second half.
Shannon Strickland led the Dustdevils in scoring with 18 points, John Achebe added 15 and Mathew Okoye added 11. Achebe also hauled in a team-high eight rebounds and Okoye and Garrett Falls both dished out two assists.
TAMIU will be in action next at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at home against the College of Biblical Studies.
