Laredo, Texas — Matthew Okoye scored 19 as Texas A&M International pulled away for an 87-57 victory over the College of Biblical Studies on Wednesday.
The Dustdevils (4-2) bounced back from a four-point road loss four days earlier to take stay undefeated at home over the Ambassadors (4-4), who have dropped their last four games.
John Achebe had 16 points and Mike Rivera, Garrett Falls and Olaverr Camacho all added 11. Achebe, Rivera and Camacho all grabbed six rebounds as TAMIU led by as many as 32 in the closing moments.
TAMIU started the game on an 8-7 over the first five minutes of a game and gained the lead on a 3 from Okoye.
The game continued to be back and forth and 3 from Ty Brady of CBS with 10 minutes left in the game cut the lead to 15-13.
The Dustdevils found its offense soon after and went on a 15-2 run over the next five minutes, capped by a dunk from Emaniel Alexandre to give his team a 28-17 lead.
TAMIU closed the half on a 12-2 run capped by another 3 from Okoye with eight seconds left in the half to capture a 40-26 lead.
The Dustdevils picked up in the second half where it finished the first half, going on a 14-4 run over the first five minutes as another triple from Okoye with 15:15 left in the game gave his team a 54-30 lead.
TAMIU continued to pull away and went on an 11-10 run over the next five minutes as a layup from Noel Scott gave his team a 65-40 lead.
Garrett Falls sank a free throw with 5:18 left to cap a 12-9 run to give the Dustdevils a 77-49 lead and the Dustdevils ended the game on a 10-8 run with Falls hitting two more shots from the charity stripe with 23 seconds left in the game.
This was the first matchup between the Dustdevils and the Ambassadors.
TAMIU will be in action next at 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 30 at home against UT Permian Basin.
