Dustdevils lose to walk off home run

KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball lost Texas A&M-Kingsville in a non-conference game on Wednesday on the road after the Javelinas hit a walk-off home run to win 8-7.
  
After a scoreless first inning, TAMIU got on the scoreboard first after Cameron Stevenson hit a two-run home. But, Texas A&M-Kingsville responded with three runs of their own to take the lead in the bottom of the second. 
 
After three scoreless innings, Ma Alvardo tied the game with another Dustdevil home run. But the Javelinas answered right back, scoring three more runs to take a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth.
 

TAMIU cut the lead to 6-4 in the top of the seventh off an RBI single from Joseph Cruz, but a Texas AM-Kingsville RBI single extended the lead to 7-4 in the bottom of the seventh. 
 
The Dustdevils rallied one last time in the top of the ninth. Cruz hit another RBI single and Mario Chacon belted a two-RBI single down the left-field line to tie the game at 7-7. 
 
But the Javelinas responded one final time to hit a two-out, walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to win the game. 
  
TAMIU threw seven pitchers during the game. 
 
Andrew Delgadillo tossed two innings allowing no runs, no hits and striking out one. 
 
Billy Winans threw one inning, allowing no runs and no hits. 
 
Caleb Strmiska commanded the mound for 1.1 innings allowing no runs, no hits and striking out three. 
 
Four other Dustdevils pitchers combined for eight runs, 10 hits and six strikeouts. 
  
TAMIU collected nine hits in the game with six players having at least one hit. 
 
Cruz and Alvarado led the Dustdevils with two hits each. 
  
TAMIU has a day off to ready themselves for a four-game series against Cameron that is set to begin on Friday, Feb. 17. First pitch for game one of the series is set for 2 p.m.
