Dustdevils Drop 1-0 Pitcher's Duel In Series Finale To Pioneers

DENTON, Texas – Texas A&M International softball closed its road trip against Texas Woman's, falling to the Pioneers 1-0 in the series finale.

TAMIU (7-10, 3-3 LSC) threatened in the each of the first two innings, having a runner reach second base, but no further.

The only other chance for the Dustdevils came in the top of the fifth inning when another runner reached second, but again would be left stranded.

Texas Woman's (9-4, 5-1 LSC) scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning off an RBI single.

Sophomore Carla Arellano would get the start and threw a complete game, allowing just the one unearned run, five hits and struck out three. Arellano has now thrown 13 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run.

TAMIU offensively recorded two hits in the game with graduate Victoria Maldonado and freshman Kennedy Griego each recording a single.

The Dustdevils return home to begin a three-game series against nationally ranked #19 Oklahoma Christian this weekend. Saturday, Feb. 25 opens the series with doubleheader action beginning at 12 p.m.
