LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International women's basketball closed the 2022-23 season against Texas-A&M Kingsville in a 65-60 defeat.
Both teams were even throughout the first half of the first quarter, trading baskets with the biggest lead being held by TAMIU at 10-7 with 3:57 remaining.
Over the last 3:39, the Javelinas (18-10, 15-7 LSC) used an 8-0 run to lead 15-10 at the quarter.
TAMUK grew the lead to eight points in the second quarter, leading 20-12 with 7:59 left, but the Dustdevils (13-17, 6-16 LSC) countered with an 8-0 run to even the game at 20-20.
From that point, neither team would lead by more than three and entering the half, the Javelinas led 30-29.
TAMIU opened the second half with a 4-0 spurt to take a 33-30 lead, but it was quickly back to a TAMUK lead at 34-33.
The Dustdevils then charged ahead with a 7-0 run to lead 41-34, but when up 43-36 in the final minute of the third, the Javelinas scored two three-pointers to make it a 43-42 lead going into the fourth.
TAMUK's run continued into the opening minute of the fourth, concluding an 11-0 run to make it a 47-43 game.
The Javelinas would stretch its lead to a game high nine points, 56-47 with 4:41 remaining, but TAMIU would chip away to cut the deficit down to just 61-60 with 36 seconds left.
However, TAMUK would score the final four points from the free-throw line to seal the victory.
On the day, the Dustdevils shot 21-for-56 (37.5%), but were 3-for-21 (14.3%) and 15-for-23 (65.2%) from the charity stripe.
For the Javelinas, they shot 17-for-49 (34.7%), 6-for-25 (24%) from three, but were a solid 25-for-31 (80.6%) from the charity stripe.

Marija Bakic led TAMIU offensively, scoring 17 points alongside a team high six rebounds.
Junior
Rai Brown was the only other player in double figures, scoring 10 points with three steals, while freshman
Angelique Morgan followed with nine points and a pair of rebounds and assists.
