Dustdevils Rally To Defeat Javelinas

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball picked up a non-conference victory against Texas A&M Kingsville on Wednesday after scoring two runs late in a 7-6 win. 
 
After neither team scored in the first inning, TAMIU (6-12, 5-11 LSC) scored in the bottom of the second to take the lead. 
 
Senior Matt Kissamis scored on a balk. 
 
Kingsville (10-8, 9-7 LSC) answered in the top of the third with two runs, but the lead didn't last long as the Dustdevils scored four in the third to take a 5-2 lead. 
 
Junior Isaac Gonzalez scored on a wild pitch, senior Marcus Alvarado singled in a run and Kissamis hit a two-run home run. 
 
The Javelinas didn't go away quietly, scoring one in the top of the fourth and three in the top of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead. 
 
But, TAMIU rallied one more time, scoring once in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth. 
 
Senior Brock Hargens hit a sacrifice to score senior Beto Cervantes for the tying run and Cervantes hit an RBI triple to take the lead one inning later. 
 
TAMIU threw 10 pitchers in the game, none throwing more than one inning. In total, the Dustdevils pitchers allowed six runs (four earned) on eight hits and five walks while striking out eight batters. 
 
Junior Danny Dial started the game and allowed no hits with two strikeouts. Junior Isaac Ponce and freshman David White also didn't allow any hits in one inning. 
 
Kissamis led TAMIU offensively, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, including a home run. The Dustdevils recorded nine hits as a team. 
 
The Dustdevils are in action next at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 3 at home for game one of a four-game series against UT Tyler.
