LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International Baseball overcame a six-run, first-inning deficit to defeat UT Tyler 14-12 in game four on Sunday.
The Patriots (13-7, 13-7 LSC) scored six runs in the top of the first off two singles, a double and a home run.
The Dustdevils (7-15, 6-14 LSC) found their footing in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs.
Senior Brock Harggens double in a run and junior
Ariben Gutierrez laid down a sacrifice bunt to score a run.
TAMIU added two more in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 6-4.
Senior
Beto Cervantes hit a two-run home run to bring in the runners.
UT Tyler added three more in the top of the fourth, but the Dustdevils held steady, scoring two runs to make the score 9-6.
Senior
Matt Kissamis singled in a pair of runs in the fourth.
Neither team scored in the fifth or sixth inning, but the floodgates opened in the bottom of the seven as TAMIU plated seven runs to take a 13-9 lead.
Graduate student Daniel Hernadez singled in a run, junior
Joseph Cruz hit a grand slam, Kissamis blasted a solo home run and senior Mario Chaco singled in a run.
The Patriots scored three in the top of the eighth to make the score 13-12 and the Dustdevils scored an insurance run.

Antonio Buentello hit a solo home run.
TAMIU held UT Tyler scoreless in the top of the ninth to seal the win.
Graduate student
Joseph Garza-Delapena started on the mound for the Dustdevils. He pitched 0.2 innings allowing six runs on four hits while walking two and striking out one.
Redshirt freshman
Reese Petersen relieved Garza-Delapena and allowed just one hit and no runs over 2.1 innings.
Junior
Isaac Ponce picked up the win in his three innings of work, allowing no runs on two hits while walking one and striking out five.
Senior
Andrew Pavon threw 0.1 innings of hitless baseball where he allowed two runs (one earned), junior
Danny Dial pitched 0.1 innings where he allowed no runs on one hit and redshirt freshman
Caleb Strmiska closed the final inning and earned the save allowing no runs on no hits.
The Dustdevils are in action next at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 10 at UAFS for game one of a four-game series.
