TYLER, Texas – Texas A&M International softball opened its final series of the season again #3 UT Tyler, unfortunately falling in both games, 10-0 and 9-1.

GAME 1: #3 UT Tyler 10 TAMIU 0 F/5

It was a tough first game for TAMIU, as the Dustdevils would fall behind 3-0 in the first, 5-0 through two, then the final five UT Tyler runs scored in the fourth inning.

TAMIU was held hitless in the contest, with junior
Erika Cortez's second inning walk and graduate
Victoria Maldonado reaching by error, being the only baserunners to reach.
Â
Cortez tossed two innings, allowing five runs (three earned), six hits, one walk and struck out one.

Sophomore
Tessa Ramirez allowed five runs (four earned), six hits one walk and a strikeout of her own in two innings of relief.

GAME 2: #3 UT Tyler 9 TAMIU 1

The Dustdevil gave themselves a chance in the top of the first getting two runners on, but to no avail, as the Patriots picked up where they left off, plating two runs in the bottom of the first to lead 2-0.

UT Tyler plated five in the bottom of the third, expanding the lead to 7-0, but TAMIU tried to claw back in the top of the fourth, but again left two runners stranded.

The Patriots closed its scoring in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of runs to make it 9-0, before the Dustdevils crossed a runner in the top of the fifth.

Sophomore
Jazmyn Cameron scored the lone run of the day for TAMIU after a wild pitch allowed her to cross. Prior to, Cameron hit a double and advanced on a single by junior
Kristy Alanis.

Sophomore
Carla Arellano tossed all four innings needed, allowing nine runs, nine hits and three walks.
Â
The Dustdevils did collect five hits, with sophomore
Tajanae Davis leading the way with a 2-for-2 showing. Alanis, Cameron and senior
Darrian Smith combined for the other three hits.

With the losses, TAMIU is eliminated from postseason contention and will close the 2023 season against UT Tyler on Saturday, April 29 at 12 p.m.
