Figueroa Tied for 5th Place After 2nd Round

Rohnert Park, Calif. – Texas A&M International junior Mauricio Figueroa birdied five holes during the second round of the NCAA Division II West/South Central regional tournament round on Friday. 
 
He entered the day tied for 14th, but after shooting -2 (70) during the second round sits in a tie for fifth place with 18 holes to go. 
 
He shot even on the first day and is -2 (142) after 36 holes. 
 
Figueroa shot birdied on holes four, 12, 14, 16, and 17 to counter bogeys on holes seven, 15, and 18. 
 
He sits one stroke behind fourth place, two behind second, and six behind the leader. 
 
At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional will advance to the finals, May 22-26 at Avalon Lakes in Warren, Ohio. The remaining eight team berths will be allocated based on the regions represented in the prior year's head-to-head medal play portion of the championships, with the maximum number of teams from a given region capped at seven. The Mountain East Conference and Avalon Lakes at The Grand Resort will host the finals.
 
Figueroa will tee off for the third and final round tomorrow, Saturday, May 13.
