Mauricio Figueroa is in first place after Tuesday's second round of the NCAA Division II National Championship, shooting a -3 (69) over 18 holes.
He started the day in a tie for fourth place after shooting -5 (67) in the first round to finish day two with a total score of -8 (136). He holds a one-stroke lead over four golfers entering Wednesday's third and final round.
The highlight of the day came when Figueroa shot an eagle on hole 14.
He also birdied on holes three, five, six, and 11 to counteract bogeys on holes one, 13, and 18.
If Figueroa can hold his lead tomorrow he will become the first national champion in the history of TAMIU.
He will tee off for the final round tomorrow, May 24.
