Dustdevils Improve to 21-4 with Win Over Eagles

Laredo, Texas – The Dustdevils (21-4, 13-4) faced the Oklahoma Christian Eagles (3-18, 2-14) in Lone Star Conference play Saturday afternoon at the TAMIU KCB and came away with the victory, 78-69.

The game kicked off with TAMIU setting a dominant tone, outscoring OKC 22-11 in the first quarter. Raiana Brown led the charge for the Dustdevils showcasing her scoring dominance. OKC struggled to find their rhythm, shooting only 21.43% from the field and 0% from beyond the arc in the opening quarter. The Dustdevil's strong defensive presence and efficient scoring paved the way for an early lead.

Despite OKC's efforts to close the gap, TAMIU maintained their lead, finishing the second quarter 36-27. Malea Jackson contributed significantly, connecting on four three-pointers, while Raiana Brown continued her consistent scoring. OKC improved their shooting accuracy in the second quarter, but TAMIU's well-balanced offense and solid defense allowed them to enter halftime with a lead.

The third quarter witnessed a resurgence from the Eagles, as they outscored TAMIU 19-20. Brooklin Bain and Keira Neal spearheaded OKC's offensive efforts, shooting 61.54% from the field. However, TAMIU's Ngozi Obineke and Malea Jackson maintained their scoring consistency, ensuring the Dustdevil's lead.

In a thrilling conclusion, the Dustdevils secured the victory with a 22-23 fourth-quarter performance. The Dustdevils demonstrated resilience and composure, fending off the Eagle's late-game push. The final quarter showcased TAMIU's ability to execute under pressure, securing their 78-69 triumph. With the win, TAMIU improves to 21-4 on the season and 13-4 in the Lone Star Conference.

Raiana Brown led the Dustdevils with 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Ngozi Obineke contributed 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. Malea Jackson also added 17 points to the effort, including 4-7 from beyond the arc.

The Dustdevils look to improve on their impressive season on Thursday, February 15 when they take on #13 Texas Woman's at 6pm in the TAMIU KCB.
