Kingsville, Texas – The Dustdevils traveled to Kingsville, TX to face the Javelinas of Texas A&M Kingsville for the final game of the regular season and came away with the victory, 83-73.
In the opening quarter, both teams traded baskets, but the Javelinas managed to gain a narrow lead with a score of 15-14 by the end of the quarter. The second quarter saw an improvedment in field goal percentage from TAMIU at 46.67% and an impressive 75% from beyond the arc, but the Javelinas maintained control after two quarters, taking a 33-38 lead heading into halftime.
The Dustdevils opened up the scoring in the third quarter, shooting 47.37% from the field. TAMIU dominated the fourth quarter, shooting 66.67% from the field and from beyond the arc, securing the victory with a final score of 83-73.
Raiana Brown led the charge with an outstanding 27-point performance to put her over 2,000 points in her career. Brown now has 2013 career points.
Bridgette Tello contributed 15 points off the bench, included 3-for-3 from three.
Malea Jackson added 13 points to the effort.
With the win, the Dustdevils will finish the regular season with an overall record of 24-6 and 16-6 in the Lone Star conference. The Lone Star Conference Tournament will begin next Friday, March 8 in Frisco, Texas. The Dustdevils currently sit 4
th in the conference, but will have to wait until Saturday for the official seeding.
