The scoring began in the 2nd inning as Zapata of West Texas A&M singled to right field, driving in Fesperman, who scored on an unearned run. The momentum continued for West Texas A&M in the 3rd inning as Micklus capitalized on a wild pitch, extending their lead to 3-0. TAMIU responded strongly in the 4th inning with an impressive three-run homer by
Cameron Yeldell, tying the game at 3-3.
Joseph Cruz added to the excitement in the 6th inning with a solo homer, giving the Dustdevils a 4-3 lead. The 8th inning saw West Texas A&M leveling the score at 4-4, with Fesperman walking in a run. The game-deciding moment occurred in the 9th inning when Micklus singled to right field, bringing in Zapata for the go-ahead run.
