Dustdevils Complete Series Sweep of Javelinas

Kingsville, Texas - Break out the brooms! The Dustdevils complete the series sweep of  Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday afternoon with a 9-6 victory. This win brings TAMIU's record to 22-24 overall and levels their conference record at 22-22, while Kingsville slips further to 23-27 overall and 21-27 in the Lone Star Conference.

The game kicked off with a bang as Omar Cervantes blasted a three-run homer to right field in the first inning, which was followed by an unearned run scored by Isaac Gonzalez on a wild pitch. This set the tone for the Dustdevils, who added another run in the second inning thanks to another RBI single by Cervantes. Kingsville tried to claw back with a run in the fourth and another in the fifth, but TAMIU pulled away again with three runs in the fifth, highlighted by hits from Daniel Quiroz, Isaac Stanwick, and Joseph Cruz.

Although Kingsville mounted a rally in the seventh, scoring three runs to narrow the gap to 8-6, TAMIU's steady offensive performance kept them ahead. Abiam Medina added an insurance RBI in the ninth, sealing the win for the Dustdevils. TAMIU's offense was on fire throughout, amassing 14 hits, led by multiple-hit games from Cervantes, Cruz, and Medina.

On the mound, Lalo Salinas earned the win with a solid five innings of work, giving up just two runs (one earned) and striking out eight. Kingsville's starter, Jake Thielen, struggled and took the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) in just 1.2 innings. The Javelinas showed resilience, tallying 13 hits, but the Dustdevils' pitching held them just enough to secure the sweep.

This series sweep not only bolsters TAMIU's standings but also gives them a surge of momentum as they continue their push through the conference schedule. The Dustdevils showcased their ability to execute in crucial moments, a trait that will be vital as the regular season comes to an end next week when the Dustdevils return home to face St. Edwards. The series begins Friday, April 26 at 2 p.m. at Jorge Haynes Field.
