San Angelo, Texas- The sixth-seeded Dustdevils took on the third-seeded Angelo State Baseball team in day two of Lone Star Conference baseball action at the First Community Credit Union Stadium. It was an eerily similar day two as the Rams defeated the Dustdevils with a final score of 9-2.
The Rams started the game off strong, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning off a double by Sands which drove home two. The momentum continued as the Rams scored three runs in the bottom of the second. The Dustdevils were able to answer in the top of the fifth inning. Led by
Ariben Gutierrez who singled to center field. Next up at bat was
Abiam Medina who doubled to right field, driving Gutierrez home, and putting the Dustdevils on the board for the day. The Rams would continue to tally runs putting up four more runs while the Dustdevils struggled to find their offensive prowess until the top of the ninth inning.
Alex Lugo was walked starting the ninth, which put the Dustdevils in place again to score. After a groundout by Gonzalez, this allowed Lugo to advance to second base. Chavez came in to pinch hit for Buentello and was able to single to left field which allowed Lugo to advance to third. Quiroz was then able to drive home a run from Lugo after coming in to pinch hit for Stanwick. The Dustdevils came up short as they were not able to make a rally in the top of the ninth to top the Rams.
Despite the pitching efforts from Templeton, Patrick, and Salinas. The lefty
Cody Templeton would come up short, taking the loss after pitching five innings for the Dustdevils. Templeton allowed 7 hits, 5 runs, 3 walks and four strikeouts after facing twenty-six batters on the day. After the game today Templeton moved to 5-4 on the year.
The loss landed the Dustdevils with an overall record of 24-29 and a 24-25 conference record on the season.
