Austin Childress Joins TAMIU as Sports Information Director

Laredo, Texas - Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is excited to announce the newest addition to its Athletics Department, Austin Childress, who will be serving as the Sports Information Director.

Childress brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having spent six dynamic years in various capacities within the athletic department at Bethel University. Most recently, he served as the assistant sports information director under Dave McCulley, where he played a pivotal role in the department's success, including winning numerous awards from the NAIA-SIDA Digital Media Production Contest.

"Austin's track record of excellence in sports information and his deep understanding of collegiate athletics make him the perfect fit for TAMIU," said Director of Athletics Griz Zimmermann. "His experience, coupled with his passion for sports and commitment to student-athletes, will greatly contribute to the success of our athletic programs."

During his tenure at Bethel University, Childress also served as a graduate assistant under Director of Athletics Brad Chappell, where he managed ticketing operations for all sports and facilitated tours for prospective student-athletes. His dedication and leadership were evident in every aspect of his work.

Childress's own athletic background is impressive. As a former member of the Lindsey Wilson College and Bethel University Cross Country and Track teams, he earned accolades such as Bethel University Athlete of the Year, SSAC Newcomer of the Year, and multiple conference championships. His experience as a student-athlete and later as a coach gives him a unique perspective on the needs of TAMIU's student-athletes.

Childress's appointment as Sports Information Director marks a new chapter for TAMIU Athletics, as the university continues to build a strong foundation for success both on and off the field.
