Laredo, Texas – The St. Mary's Rattlers traveled to Laredo to take on TAMIU. The Rattlers built an early lead in the first quarter which was enough to propel them to a 73-50 victory over the Dustdevils.
In the first quarter, Texas A&M International struggled mightily, shooting just 15.38% (2-13) and failing to hit any of their six three-point attempts. St. Mary's shot 52.94% (9-17), including 42.86% from beyond the arc (3-7).The first quarter ended with St. Mary's up 22-8.
The Dustdevils bounced back in the second quarter, shooting 35.29% (6-17) from the field and 50.00% (3-6) from three-point range. St. Mary's shot just 38.46% (5-13). At halftime, St. Mary's held a 35-26 lead.
In the third quarter, the Rattlers hit 70.00% of their field goals (7-10) and went 6-9 (66.67%) from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, TAMIU shot 35.71% (5-14) from the floor and just 16.67% (1-6) from deep.
In the final quarter, TAMIU shot only 15.38% (2-13) from the field and 28.57% from three (2-7). St. Mary's shot 38.89% (7-18) from the field. The Rattlers closed out the game with a 73-50 victory.
Janiya Murphy led the Dustdevil offense with 15 points, including 11-11 from the free-throw line.
Trinity Chears contributed 13 points.
Bahar Kalkan added six points with four assists.
