Laredo, Texas - Texas A&M International men's soccer fell to Midwestern State, 5–1, on Saturday afternoon at Dustdevil Field.
The Dustdevils opened the match with energy, taking an early 1–0 lead when
Felipe Garcia found the back of the net in the 24th minute for his first goal of the season. TAMIU maintained strong defensive play through the opening half, holding the Mustangs to one goal before the break.
Midwestern State, however, found its rhythm in the second half, netting four unanswered goals to pull away. Goalkeepers
Emmanuel Esquivel and
Nicklas Berg-Eriksen combined for five saves in the contest, facing 20 total shots from the visitors.
TAMIU recorded 10 shots on the afternoon, including four on goal, with Garcia,
Jonathan Cervantes,
Shiloh Toliver, and Antonio Schauer each registering a shot on target.
With the result, the Dustdevils move to 2–2–5 overall and 0–1–1 in Lone Star Conference play.
TAMIU continues the season on the road against Lubbock Christian on Oct. 8.
