Springfield, Mo. – The Dustdevils traveled to Missouri for a midweek matchup against Coach Fowler's alma mater, Drury University. Forty minutes was not enough to determine a winner as the Dustdevils fell in double overtime by a score of 81-68.
The first quarter consisted of strong defensive efforts on both sides as TAMIU held Drury to 13 points on 6-17 shooting from the field. However, the Panthers held the Dustdevils to 10 points on 4-17 shooting from the field.
Both teams shot significantly better in the second quarter, and the Panthers took a 33-28 lead into halftime.
The Dustdevils came out hot to start the second half as they outscored the Panthers 24-13 in the third quarter, shooting 8-15 from the field. The Panthers bounced back in the fourth quarter to end regulation 62-62.
Both teams added five points in the first overtime, but the Panthers outpaced the Dustdevils in the second overtime earning the 81-68 victory.
Aaliyah McMillan and
Deannasty Smith led the way for the Dustdevils with 18 and 17 points respectively, with
Racheal Emmanuel adding 16 points as well.
Emmanuel and Smith led the defensive effort for TAMIU combining for 25 rebounds.
The Dustdevils head to Austin to face Western Colorado on November 24. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
