SAN ANGELO, Texas — Angelo State scored the final points of the game at the free-throw line with six seconds remaining to slip past Texas A&M International, 78–77, Monday afternoon at the Junell Center/Stephens Arena.
The Dustdevils led for more than 22 minutes and built a double-digit advantage early in the second half, but Angelo State erased the deficit behind a strong closing stretch to secure the one-point Lone Star Conference victory.
TAMIU shot an efficient 56 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from three-point range, but was outscored 45–38 after halftime. The Rams capitalized on second-chance opportunities, finishing with a 17–6 edge in second-chance points.
Jamyier Patton led Texas A&M International with 21 points, adding three assists and two steals while playing nearly the entire game. Caylen Goff Brown followed with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including three three-pointers, while Spivey Word contributed 11 points, three assists and three steals. Jordan Kwende added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Angelo State was paced by Jaqai Murray, who scored a game-high 31 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Jordan Crawford chipped in 16 points, while Kailon Nicholls added 10 points, four assists and two steals.
The Dustdevils carried a 39–33 lead into halftime and extended the margin to as many as 10 points early in the second half. Angelo State responded with consistent pressure in the paint and at the foul line, tying the game late before taking the lead for good in the closing seconds.
Texas A&M International had a final look at the basket as time expired, but the attempt fell short, sealing the narrow defeat.
The Dustdevils move to 3–7 overall and 2–2 in Lone Star Conference play, while Angelo State improved to 9–3 on the season.

Jamyier Patton delivered a standout performance for the Dustdevils, leading the team with 21 points on an efficient 8-of-13 shooting, including 2-of-3 from three-point range, while playing 38 minutes. He also added three assists and two steals, consistently creating offense and keeping TAMIU in control for much of the game.
Patton scored in all phases — attacking the paint, knocking down perimeter shots and converting at the free-throw line — and was instrumental during TAMIU's first-half run that built a six-point halftime lead. His steady presence and production on both ends made him the Dustdevils' top performer in the narrow one-point loss.
