Dustdevils Fall to Angelo State on the Road, 59–38

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Texas A&M International struggled to find an offensive rhythm Monday afternoon as Angelo State pulled away for a 59–38 victory in Lone Star Conference women's basketball action at the Junell Center.

The Dustdevils (2–6, 1–3 LSC) were held to 20.7 percent shooting from the field and were limited to single-digit scoring in three of the four quarters. Despite early competitiveness, Angelo State used steady scoring and defensive pressure to build separation by halftime and never looked back.

TAMIU trailed just 18–15 after the first quarter, using second-chance points to stay close, but Angelo State outscored the Dustdevils 15–6 in the second quarter to take a 33–21 lead into the break. The Rambelles continued to control the tempo in the second half, extending the margin to 17 points after three quarters before closing out the contest.

Racheal Emmanuel led TAMIU with 13 rebounds, anchoring the Dustdevils on the glass, while Angelique Morgan paced the team offensively with nine points. Dacia Jones and Aaliyah McMillan added eight and seven points, respectively, as TAMIU finished with 38 total points.

Angelo State shot 41.9 percent from the field and was led by Majik Esquivel, who scored a game-high 16 points, and Keniah Williams, who posted 10 points and nine rebounds. The Rambelles also held a 47–38 rebounding edge and scored 34 points in the paint.

Texas A&M International returns to action later this week as conference play continues.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Racheal Emmanuel, Senior, comes to Laredo from Port Harcourt, Nigeria. She is the daughter of Lorah. She is pursuing her degree in Multidisciplinary Studies.

Despite the loss, Racheal Emmanuel was a steady presence for the Dustdevils, finishing with a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with four points and four assists. Emmanuel consistently battled inside, creating second-chance opportunities and anchoring TAMIU on the glass against a physical Angelo State frontcourt.

Her effort and activity level stood out as Texas A&M International worked to stay competitive throughout the contest.
