Goff Brown’s 19 Points Lead TAMIU in Home Defeat

LAREDO, Texas — Texas A&M International kept pace for much of the afternoon, but a dominant performance from DBU's Bishop Jones proved too much to overcome as the Dustdevils fell 72–59 on Saturday at the TAMIU Convocation Center.

Jones powered DBU (6–4, 2–0 LSC) with a game-high 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting while adding four rebounds and three steals. He scored 18 of his points in the second half, repeatedly finishing at the rim as the Patriots used a series of short runs to create separation.

TAMIU (2–6, 1–1 LSC) was led by Caylen Goff Brown, who finished with 19 points, including four 3-pointers, and three steals. Jamyier Patton added 15 points and four assists, while Aidan Williams pulled down eight rebounds to go with eight points.

The Dustdevils trailed just 37–33 at halftime after a late 8–0 run punctuated by baskets from AJ Borden and Jones on the DBU side. TAMIU continued to stay within reach early in the second half, cutting the margin to 48–38 after a fast-break finish from Jaden Shelvin.

But DBU controlled the glass and capitalized on turnovers, turning 20 TAMIU giveaways into 24 points. The Patriots also knocked down 11 threes, including key second-half makes from Jones, Trevor Frank, and Drew Calderon that kept the Dustdevils from mounting another run.

TAMIU made one final push inside the seven-minute mark, trimming the deficit to 59–57 after a three-point play from Gaius Mervin M'Ella. Jones answered with a 3-pointer on the next possession, and DBU outscored the Dustdevils 13–2 over the final six minutes.

The Dustdevils shot an efficient 44 percent from the field but were hurt by a 7-of-18 mark from deep and a minus-3 rebound margin, including just three offensive boards.

TAMIU continues Lone Star Conference play next week.
