LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International couldn't overcome a fast start from Texas Woman's on Saturday afternoon, falling 71–55 at the Kinesiology Building.
TAMIU (2–4, 1–1 LSC) was outscored 24–13 in the opening quarter and trailed 43–25 at halftime after the Pioneers shot 50 percent from the field in the first half. TWU (7–1, 2–0) maintained control throughout, leading by as many as 25.
Racheal Emmanuel led the Dustdevils with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Angelique Morgan added 11 points, three rebounds and two steals. Aaliyah McMillan scored 10 points, including two 3-pointers, and Dacia Jones provided five points and a team-high eight rebounds off the bench.
TAMIU scored 15 in the fourth quarter, sparked by strong interior play from Emmanuel and Morgan, but the early deficit proved too much against a TWU team that shot 50 percent on the day.
Texas Woman's was led by Averee Kleinhans, who finished with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Madi Lumsden added 16 points, and Jada Celsur chipped in 15. Gabby Elliott recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Pioneers.
Despite the loss, TAMIU won the rebounding battle 39–33 and earned 11 second-chance points but shot 29 percent from the floor and 4-of-18 from beyond the arc.
The Dustdevils continue conference play next week.
