Dustdevils Split Against Greyhounds

Portales, New Mexico- The TAMIU softball team took to Portales to take on the Eastern New Mexico in a doubleheader. TAMIU entered the contest 6-5 on the year while the Greyhounds entered 6-4 overall.

Game One

The Dustdevils started off hot, as Jenna Fabela was able to walk and bring home Kennedy Griego after she was hit by a pitch.  The Greyhounds were quick to answer as they drove home two runs in the bottom of the first and the second. The Dustdevils were not able to answer until the top of the third as Valerie Loyola advanced to home on a wild pitch. Isabella Perez sacrifice fly allowed Madison Taylor Gray to score. The Greyhounds would then again answer, driving home one run each in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings. However, it was in the seventh inning that the Dustdevils took over in demanding fashion. Kennedy Greigo set the tone for the Dustdevils as she homered to center field. Victoria Gonzalez singled to left field. Zaria Bringham singled to center field. Jenna Fabela hit a double which allowed Brigham to score. As the Dustdevils were behind, it was Victoria Espinoza who was at three balls and two strike count then homered to left field. The three-run shot allowed for the Dustdevils to take the lead. The Greyhounds were not able to answer back as TAMIU Softball came out with the win 8-6. Nevaeh Herrera and Kylie Goad took the circle for the Dustdevils. Herrera came away with the win after pitching three innings, facing 11 batters and striking out two batters.

Game Two
The Dustdevils would struggle to find their groove in the second game. TAMIU would score in the top of the second inning when Alexia Hernandez doubled to right center which allowed Jenna Fabela to advance to third and Eva Garcia to score. Unfortunately, this would be the only time the Dustdevils would score in the second game against the Greyhounds. The Greyhounds would add 11 runs to TAMIU's 1 which resulted in a run rule in the sixth inning.

TAMIU Softball will play again on Saturday at Western New Mexico University at 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM CDT.
