UT Permian Basin outlasts Texas A&M International 100–95 in overtime

LAREDO, Texas — Sharrod Taylor scored a game-high 35 points and UT Permian Basin pulled away in overtime to defeat Texas A&M International 100–95 on Thursday night at the TAMIU Convocation Center.

The game was tied 84–84 at the end of regulation before UTP outscored the Dustdevils 16–11 in overtime, going 8 for 8 at the free-throw line in the extra period.

Bryceson Burns added 19 points for the Falcons, while TJ McKenzie and Tash Lunday finished with 18 points apiece as UTP placed four players in double figures. UT Permian Basin shot 49.2 percent from the field and 83.8 percent from the free-throw line.

Texas A&M International was led by Aaron Perez, who scored 24 points and hit five 3-pointers. Jamyier Patton added 23 points and six assists, and Caylen Goff Brown chipped in 15 points.

The teams were tied 35–35 at halftime and each scored 49 points in the second half. TAMIU led for nearly 27 minutes of game time and held a 10-point advantage midway through the second half before UTP rallied to force overtime.

UT Permian Basin improved to 8–11 overall and 4–7 in Lone Star Conference play. Texas A&M International fell to 7–11 overall and 4–6 in conference action.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Aaron Perez, Sophomore, comes to Laredo from Houston, TX. He is the son of Carlos and Veronica and has one sister. He is pursuing his degree in Business Administration.

Perez led Texas A&M International with a team-high 24 points, shooting 8 of 13 from the field and knocking down five 3-pointers in Thursday's overtime loss to UT Permian Basin. Perez was a steady offensive presence throughout the night, helping fuel the Dustdevils' second-half surge and providing key scoring late in regulation to help force overtime.
