Greyhounds Dominate Play In The Paint Leads To Dustdevils' Loss

LAREDO – Texas    The Dustdevils' drain 10 three pointers and get four players in double figures but allow a 64-to-20 in the paint advantage and fall short to #9 Eastern New Mexico 85-71 inside KCB Arena.  

TAMIU (8-17,5-12) in the first half collected eight made three-pointers, three coming from Spivey Word off the bench who led the way into the second half with 11 points.  

Eastern New Mexico (22-3,15-2) held the advantage down low with forwards Austin Abrams and Jose Murillo combining for 34 points down low shooting a combined 15-for-18.  

In the second half, Caylen Goff Brown and Spivey Word got the Greyhound lead down to five points with 6:02 remaining.  That is when Modibo Sanogo subbed in for Jose Curillo and went on an 11-0 run by himself going 5-for-5 

This run plus the play of two tall forwards Abrams and Curillo allowed 64 to 20 points in the paint advantage that the Dustdevils' couldn't shoot their way out of.  

Caylen Goff Brown led all Dustdevils with 23 points going 5-of-10 from the field with three made three-pointers. Spivey Word collected four threes' off the bench finishing with 16 points shooting 5-of-16, 4-of-5 from deep. Peyton Gusters went a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor collecting 12 points.  

The Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds remain flawless on the road going 12-0 and facing Texas A&M Kingsville Saturday, while the Dustdevils remain home to face West Texas A&M Saturday.  
 

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Jamyier Patton the junior guard from Buffalo, New York , helped the the team score with eight assists, two steals, and 11 points, shooting 4-of-9. Patton is currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration.
