LAREDO- Texas The Dustdevils battle back and forth against Sul Ross State in game one when a walk off double by Ciro Benavides seals the deal 8-7 inside Jorge Haynes Field.
TAMIU (4-7,4-7) got runs on the board in every inning besides the first,third,and sixth with Ciro Benavides leading the way going 4-of-6 with three RBI. Asahi Nakano also came up big for the Dustdevils with a two rbi single in the fifth to tie it 4-4.
Sul Ross State (1-10,1-10) finished the game with nine hits, two of which scored three runs in the eighth, giving the Lobos a one-run lead heading into the ninth, 7-6.
The Lobos brought in four pitchers giving up four walks, while the Dustdevils brought in five pitchers giving up six.
In the bottom of the ninth bases were loaded after Giovanni Maletesta reached base on an error, Derek Garcia singles, and a hit by pitch to Eduardo Espinoza.
This brought up second baseman Ciro Benavides, facing a 2-1 count and doubling to bring two runners' home and win the game 8-7.
The Lobos collected nine hits with two players getting two-hit afternoons, Jayden Hernandez (2-5 2RBI) and Alfaro Lopez (2-4 RBI) leading the way.
The series continues with a doubleheader Saturday afternoon inside Jorge Jaynes Field.
